New Linderman Books Coming Out This Year

In exciting news from the publishing world, we have received notice that there will be four new Frank Linderman books hitting the shelves during the next year.

1) The first scheduled arrival is Iron Shirt from Homestead Publishing, which came out in July 2004. Iron Shirt is a suspenseful mystery set aboard the steamer Yellow Stone. A young clerk for the American Fur Company, a German prince and naturalist, his niece, a Swiss artist and a Scottish lord are passengers on a journey up the Missouri to Fort Union. Their chance union solves an age old Scottish mystery. Iron Shirt is listed under The Native Lore and American Western Classics series from Homestead.

2) An expanded version of Indian Why Stories is coming in September (2004) from the University of Nebraska Press. This version comes with thirteen of the original legends written by Linderman before 1915 in the form of poems. Later, Linderman turned them into the familiar narrative style that is currently familiar to most of us. This expanded edition contains both.

3) Yet another upcoming release from Linderman is Big Jinny, the autobiography of Jinny, a grizzly bear. Written in the 1930s, this book contains the pen and ink and watercolor illustrations by the talented local artist Elizabeth Lochrie.

4) Finally, in 2005, the University of Nebraska Press will re-release Lige Mounts: Free Trapper. This work was very close to Linderman's heart and was based on his life as a trapper during his early days in Montana. Lige Mounts was a trapper in the Flathead and you can find a photo of him in the Linderman exhibit at the Museum.
